Hi Matt
I am not too sure what was the underlying problem with my (first) TD20. Obviously, it did not help that I made an error when mounting the main power supply capacitor the wrong way around.
I ended up sending the the TD20 to a friend who is a professional repair person and he restored it working order. Unfortunately, it then did the same trick (i.e. blew fuses and refused to work) and as a I was lucky enough to find another (working) TD20 (with non-stripped reel-tables!), the one in the picture is now being used for spare parts.
If you go back to response #3, #4 & #5 there are some suggestions by people who seem to know about the machine. They suggest a short-circuit tantalum capacitor, poor connections to the (socketed) voltage regulators, and possibly also problems with the value of the motor-resistor. I also noted that that there was the possibility of a short-circuit between the plus-side of the power-supply and the chassis.
Sorry I cannot be of much more help
